Happy Weekend, all! I hope you’ve been enjoying this first weekend in June and living well with people you love. It’s been a good one here as we prepare for our Owyhee River trip…hard to believe we’ll be off this coming Tuesday morning for another adventure down the river! Even though the weather is supposed to be sub-par (as far as the Owyhee goes…read: more rain, less sun than usual), we are pumped not only for the trip itself but for the group who is coming with us. As part of our preparation, we’ve been sending out last-minute emails, going over our programming/content for the trip, being reminded to trust that God is in control of the details and gathering gear (you should see the basement!). We drove down to Mountain Equipment Co-Op yesterday to pick up some essentials for the group, including my first ever PFD (personal flotation device, aka life jacket!) complete with a knife.
I am RIVER WOMAN, hear me roar!
Just kidding…I’m actually not that tough.
I’m stoked to wear it and USE it! After trying this on and prancing around the house for a bit, I snuck outside for a a beautiful, thundery, rainy, sunny, green & fresh run. Special thanks to my wonderful husband who is kind enough to allow me to get out and move even when there’s tons to do – those 8.32 miles in Fish Creek Park were so refreshing to my heart and mind! I got my (mini) workout on later in the evening while trying out a gift from my mom – this cute mesh active dress by Nike. Hard to really see it in the photos, but its there and I love it! Thanks mom!
Just a few biceps/triceps/lunges/planks/squats to get my HR up!
Today has been another great day – as the week(end) goes on and more tasks are ticked off the “to-do” list, we’re relaxing more and feeling less scattered and more settled about our trip. Because of this, we joined some friends this morning for brunch and met two new, cute babies – cousins! – and had not only great food (hello, crepes + Nutella, yogurt, berries, pears & turkey sausages!) but great company. Although we didn’t snap any photos, I assure you it was a blast – a much needed time of fellowship and encouragement with wonderful people.
The rest of the day consisted of a few more errands plus prep for Mikey’s talk tomorrow at a camp for kid cancer survivors and their parents. We will be hanging out from 11 am to about 4 or 5 pm tomorrow where Mikey will speak and later we will show a shortened version of our film. Although it’s hard to think of being gone the entire day with so much to do (we have to leave around 8:30 am tomorrow morning), what a cool opportunity to encourage these kids and their parents who have gone through so much! Mikey’s talk is a neat one, inspired by this talk by Francis Chan; I’ll be sure to post how it goes with some clips and photos of the morning! The kids are getting the chance to ride a hot air balloon and play mini golf among other activities; should be a neat day.
Just popping in to say hello on this brisk Saturday night – someone please tell Calgary that it’s JUNE 4th! If you’re looking for a filler all-bodyweight workout that can be modified (the original workout is 600 reps! but you can scale it down to half or a fourth of that), then check this Bodyrock routine out and enjoy the burn – I know I did tonight and felt GREAT afterward! The rest of my night entails listening to a sermon my mom recommended (“Your Plans; God’s Plans” by Timothy Keller) and sipping at some tea. Gotta rest up for the morning! To help with our quick exit tomorrow, I made up a batch of Vegan Blueberry Banana Overnight Oats after reading about them on Angela‘s site…check it out and give overnight oats a shot if you love oatmeal but want to try a twist on it! I’m already looking forward to breakfast in the a.m. (but what else is new?)!
I leave you with some fun summer shots – by purchasing iced bevies and eating summer foods, I am willing summer into existence here! Have a great weekend guys! Live well & be well,
Iced coffee – a new love for me!
My Dad growing a white goatee – I love it! (miss you, Dad!)
Giant strawbs – a perk of living with the in-laws is that they buy delicious fruits other than bananas and apples!
