Well, it’s official – I’m done with work now! I’m writing this on a snowy Monday and it’s hard to believe I’m inside with a cold and my feet up, and not at the gym! I’d say the snow is uncommon…But it happens in October. However, not being at the gym etc? Definitely uncommon. I have had a few uncommon experiences lately and thought I’d share a few of them…
Bending Over – Yep. Something as small as bending over to tie my shoes or grab something is now uncommon because I forget that my belly sticks out and is so hard, and it’s like running into a little all! Putting my socks on, trying to lean forward when I no longer want to lean back on the couch… Every way I move now feels odd and uncommon!
(ahhh – I guess that’s why – there’s a pretty substantial belly in the way now! My new nursing Sports Bra is from Balance Everywhere in Calgary) 😉
Baby Laundry – Laundry looks different as I started the loads of all the baby blankets and clothes. Folding those tiny little onsies and soft, well used receiving blankets is pretty surreal!
Surprise Baby Shower – It’s not too often you think you’re going out to dinner and end up with your co-workers and clients surprising you with a baby shower! I could NOT believe it… What a blast and gift from my CityFit family! I felt very loved Friday night and grateful for their time, presence, and quite unexpected gifts.

I was super happy to hear from Rocky at UnCommon Goods when he reached out to me to offer me the chance to browse their website and pick a few products under $200 Canadian, and man oh man, browse I did! Have you guys heard of this website? In a nutshell, UnCommon Goods offers remarkable designs by independent makers, and they do so with a positive impact on both people and our planet. They are building a “community of passionate people who love our products and connect with the stories behind them. [They’re] growing not only [their] artist family, but also a strong following of customers who celebrate artists and delight in surrounding themselves with creative design;” what a cool idea! It made me more excited to learn this about the brand/company than just the initial browse through their website did, because supporting small businesses is something I want to bring into my life more and more.
First I started checking out the Garden Decor section as the weather in Calgary was still nice and I was loving our backyard! Then I switched over to the Decorative Accents area, which had a ton of fun stuff to look through (and even now, looking back, I’m kicking myself for not getting the succulent living wall planer kit!); we actually did end up getting one product from this area of the site! And of course I had to look at the baby section as I thought it would be appropriate to get a gift for our wee one! I spent most of my time browsing the Home Decor section, however, as we still had some finishing touches to add to our home after moving in June. Like I said, there are a TON of products on this website, so there’s certainly something for everyone to be discovered, which made choosing difficult! But here’s what we decided on:
For us: The Adventure Blanket – perfect for family outings with a ton of cool features!
For Mikey: Toggle Switch Plate – it’s up in Mikey’s office downstairs!
For the babe: Organic Cotton Teethers Veggie Crate – so far the only stuffed animal/vegetable/object/toy that I’ve bought. 🙂
I have since washed these and keep holding the little veggies – they are so darn cute! Can’t wait to enjoy them with our wee one!
If you live in Canada, know that UnCommon Goods now offers:
- All prices in Canadian dollars
- Duties and taxes calculated at checkout
- Low international shipping rates
- Guaranteed landed costs (no additional charges at delivery)
Anyone in this country knows how
frustrating expensive shipping from anywhere to Canada can be, so this is a big bonus. You have to dig through their site a bit, but it’s worth it! Thanks again to Rocky for reaching out to me – the veggie crate is set up in the baby room, our adventure blanket is ready for the next time outside, and our toggle switch makes me smile every time I go downstairs to do laundry. 😉
And those are some of my uncommon experiences lately… Care to share any yourself? I’d love to hear them!
I’ll check in later this week – until then, live well & be well, friends,
