Hi guys! Long time no write, hey? It’s been a busy week full of clients, studying for my upcoming personal training exam through ACSM (just a new basic certification) and fun on the weekend with a ski day! I thought I’d share some of the photos and highlights from our 3rd Annual Lake Louise Ski Day for Cancer Survivors! Stay tuned below for some links you’ll love!
As I mentioned before, this was the 3rd annual event that began with a man named Peter who connected with us about hosting a young adult cancer survivor ski day a few years back. He sadly passed away from his brain cancer this year, but his incredible wife Chris and daughter Holly carried it on in his name. This year was bigger than ever with 40 participants and a great spread of ages!
Major thanks to Lake Louise for the tickets, to the guides for giving so generously of their day to help us out on the hill, to Julie who broke her ankle but rocked out a day of skiing beforehand all the same, to YACC for helping with the costs, to Wellspring Calgary for organizing the day and to Southland Transportation (and Dave) for the donated bus for the day!
(a group of us at lunch)
It was a great day and we’re already planning for next year with a date on the calendar. That’s one way to embrace the long winter in Calgary and rough things that can happen in life, isn’t it? Thankful for this community God has placed us in. 🙂
Although I don’t have much in the way of workouts to share, I do have some checkins and some links to share with you guys, starting with my PLP Challenge (pull ups, lunge, push up). I just finished day 16 and broke the movements up into 4 sets of 4 today. Here’s a short video with some workout ideas for you – a push, a hinge & a squat (plus some good finishers):
I had a shorter window of time to workout and did a Barbell Complex featuring front squats, push presses & sumo deadlifts. 5 rounds, 5 reps each. My finisher was a de/ascending ladder of 10-1 heavy kettlebell swings +1-10 #burpees. Good day of movement & all under 30 min! Let me know if you give it a whirl!
- You guys know I love my pull ups! Here’s a great post from Paige about progressing to doing your own chin ups that I loved and totally agreed with.
- So you know I like to lift…but what about bend? Pose? Try something new like yoga? Yeah, that’s a little scarier for me to try and commit to but this post from Jen makes it easier! A comprehensive look at yoga…
- Here’s a tasty (and easy! I just buy the pre-cut broccoli slaw from Safeway which is one step easier than in this post) recipe for a veggie side dish from Lindsay: broccoli slaw with peanut sauce. (She just announced she’s pregnant…a huge congrats to you guys!)
- Loved this thoughtful post about willpower from Kindal.
Got any fun links to share? Thoughts on our ski day or your weekend? And how about some good workouts? Please share! Have a great Thursday and I’ll catch you guys later. Live well & be well,
