Happy day-before-Valentine’s Day (or Valentine’s Day if you’re reading this on Thursday)! I’m all about themes (tabata workout, boxer-themed cardio class, taco night, etc) so I thought I would theme it up on this day of love. Except that the colors of this day haven’t always jived with me…I used to hate all things pink. HATE ’em! I was a tomboy through and through and thought pink meant you were girly – and of course I didn’t want anything to do with that. So I embraced blues and oranges and grays – but never pink hues. My mom even started calling me “Pinky” as a nickname for a while because I hated the color so much (a fact that, when I tried to confirm with her this morning, she said she forgot. “Pinky” couldn’t be a made-up memory, could it?!).
But at some point things turned around. Perhaps it’s when I realized that a color didn’t make me any less of a tomboy, or when I became more comfortable in my own skin (I talk more about my tree-loving, rope-climbing, less-girly ways in this girl power post!).
A few PINK things that I love include:
– the occasional red/pink nail polish look
– raspberries, strawberries, pomegrantes
– blood and cuts – just the little ones that show you climbed hard or fell on a hike. 😉 You can’t take the tomboy out of the girl… 😉
– beets! …but only in juice form, oddly enough. I loved today’s juice from SPUD Calgary that included:
It was a little beet-y for Mikey but I loved it! YUM.
Okay…so maybe there aren’t a TON of pink things I love, but I thought it was fitting for Valentine’s Day coming up tomorrow. We generally don’t do anything to “celebrate” the holiday but also aren’t “anti-” about it either. We are, however, going to a play with friends on Friday, so we’re viewing that as a way to enjoy the holiday – there will be a meal at our house, some wine, the play and maybe a dessert out afterward. Oh – and we’re dressing up. Maybe I’ll wear pink?! 😉
Enjoy this workout with your significant other or best friend – no matter who you train with, it’s a great way to burn calories and melt some fat!
…not that my significant other and I workout together or anything! I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’d love to…but it’s not really how we connect, you know? It’s more like I workout so that I feel better when I’m around him…and he just loves to get out in nature. To each their own, right? Maybe one day he’ll come around and join me for a sweat sess! We’ve always got rock climbing, hiking and back country skiing together – and I’m quite happy with that.
Happy Valentine’s Day, friends! Let me know if you try the workout and lay it on me if you have any fun Valentine’s Day plans. Until next time, live well & be well,
