Hello and happy first Friday of 2013 to you all! What are you all up to this weekend? As far as I know, I’m cooking up healthy food and keeping the house clean for a husband who is back in grad school for his second semester and pushing through a block week class! 😉 I love being able to help keep our space clean and provide him with good fuel for his (brain) workouts! The weather recently got much more mild than it was…so I’m hoping to get out for a good run and keep up with my mom‘s fitness challenge (anyone else doing it for the month of January?!).
Speaking of challenges, I’m excited to share a new strength and skill-based program that I’m trying out for the next 12 and then 30 days. It’s a pull up program! It’s called the Pavel Fighter Pull Up Program and I just found out about it thanks to fellow FitFluential Ambassador Amanda – check out her great results from using the program on her recap post! I’m starting with the program that starts with 3 pull ups in the first set rather than the 5 because I realize that even if I could do 10 pull ups in a row no problem at one point in time, I was lighter then and way more practiced in them than I am now! So I’m starting with the 12 day program and then moving into the 30 day one. I LOVE pull ups and love the feeling of being strong, so I’m excited to keep it up in addition to my other workouts!
It’s been great to get back into routine in terms of my fitness in the past few days. It’s funny; when I noted how I didn’t workout at ALL over the break, my husband laughed incredulously, saying that the 85 km we hiked through the snow and the subsequent skiing didn’t count! 😉 No, of COURSE that activity was great and counted, but it’s different to do pull up and squats and higher intensity work in the gym – I love that feeling of pushing just like I love getting out and rock climbing or running or back country skiing!
I did this workout thanks to GPP today after day 2 of my pull up program and LOVED it. I felt strong and fit even though I was suffering a bit after yesterday’s first “real” workout back (I did this 365 rep workout from Zuzana and loved it too!). Here’s how I felt day 2 after hitting it hard in the gym:
So…are you doing any fitness challenges as the year starts? Are you someone who likes those or doesn’t? I kind of go back and forth on them myself, but right now I really want to get back to a good string of pull ups and I’m looking forward to working on something specific since most my workouts are total body and not focused on improving a skill.
Live well and be well (and go pump some iron to start your weekend off right!),
