Hey everyone! Well, it’s not too often I do two posts in a day, but I couldn’t wait until tomorrow to share some exciting news with you – news that YOU could impact and be a part of!
The first is a fundraising event for Susan, who was recently diagnosed with hodgekins lymphoma and has estimated her medical bills to be almost $5,000 a month. She was working as a personal trainer before she slipped while ice skating on the Ottawa canal and shattered her elbow, eventually moving back to New Brunswick and now getting the shocking news that she has cancer. Not only is her story compelling and real, but she’s being open and honest about the experience on her blog, and it’s been so amazing to see the online community come together to support her. Moreover, she has the same cancer my husband was diagnosed with 3 years ago, so I understand from a supporter’s point of view what she is going through and want to share this neat event with you all.
Janetha organized this auction for Susan, who just began her chemotherapy treatments, and there are tons of bloggers and non-bloggers participating in this online auction! For more information, check out this link – July 25th is coming soon! Special thanks to Janetha for setting this up and to everyone participating, either with a donation, by being involved in the bidding or through direct payment for Susan (again, check the link above for more information on how to do all that)!
The second event is a fundraiser for Mikey and I, actually connected to the event above. I’ve mentioned it in a recent previous post, but after going through our own cancer experience, we found that a huge part of the healing experience post-treatments for (young adult) survivors is being able to tell their story. One of our passions is helping young adult cancer survivors find their voice, understand their story in order to heal and tell their stories effectively to others to continue to healing and giving back process. After our first film, we realized how needed this is in the young adult cancer community and even found that many different types of people with different experiences (not necessarily cancer) identified with the themes of the film. So…we’re at it again!
This September we are running a sailing trip with young adult survivors out of Vancouver Island in the Desolation Sound area and will be filming the trip and focusing specifically on one engaging, beautiful and inspirational survivor – a friend of ours – and her story. But we need help raising the funds in order to do the film! If you’re interested in hearing more about the project through our short video and possibly donating, you can click here. We are raising the funds through KickStarter (whose passion is funding and following creativity!) and partnering with our friend Paul for the film. Please check it out if you get the chance and thanks for your support!
