Hey guys! Wow…what a few days it’s been! Mikey and I hit the road early today at 5 am morning to drive down to Boise, Idaho for our fourth kayaking expedition with Youth Dynamics Adventures and young adult cancer survivors. We are beyond stoked but it’s been a few long days and a little journey to get here this year with us both working full time rather than being able to take time off to prep for the trip. But first…a sneak peek at the last few days:
Grilling up goodness with Edith! Crab-stuffed salmon, grilled asparagus, a tomato salad and delicious white wine. So great to catch up with a friend over good food! 😀 I stopped by for this delicious meal and good company en route to pick Mikey up from the airport over the weekend and we made the obligatory stop at Peter’s Drive-In on the way home for milkshakes (for him, dipped cone for her!). YUM.
Since then we’ve been going nonstop to get ready for the expedition. I haven’t been much help as I’ve been training lots, but things have stayed busy in the gym and I’m grateful for that!
I’ve also been keeping myself busy with my own workouts. Yesterday I arrived at work early because of my full day, knowing I wouldn’t have much of a break to get my own workout in, and headed out for my first run since I stopped the #RWRunStreak (I knew it was only a matter of time before I “broke” that challenge since we’ll be on the river all week in a canyon!). I headed out for 30 minutes and back in the beautiful morning air and loved every step, despite sore muscles from the previous day’s workout, and finished up with 6.96 miles total. Especially when things get busy and it’s easy to blow off a workout, here’s what I always tell myself:
…isn’t it so true? That is enough to motivate me to move right there (and I’m already plotting how I can #move more at gas stations throughout the long day today). 😉 I’ve been keeping up with Susan‘s Ab Challenge and really loving every minute of it; sad I won’t be able to complete it without internet or cell service on the river but already looking forward to picking up where I left off when I come back!
In other news, today is my 27th birthday! My colleagues at work were kind enough to celebrate my birthday a day early with me yesterday with my favorite: an ice cream cake complete with my new nickname: Langster (the Gangster). 😉 Really made me feel loved and cared for! I had my 3 month interview yesterday as well (full day!) and it went great; always something to work on but I left feeling and encouraged and just grateful for my work and the community at Fifth Avenue Club!
27 years old and loving life and the story that God is writing! Here are 27 things I’m enjoying about life right now or looking forward to this year:
I love road trips, beautiful views, and good tunes and conversations in the car, and the long day in the car with Mikey and our new friend Laura, a participant on the trip, was great! 16 hours later, we made it Boise, Idaho and are ready for some sleep and for an amazing trip. Can’t wait to see what God will do!
And on that note, I’m hitting the hay! Have a great week and I will see you guys when I’m back to civilization – time to unplug and get my kayak on! Until next time, live well & be well, friends,
