Happy New Year’s Eve, friends! Tonight, my heart is full despite our home being much emptier and quieter. Today my family left after a week of being together – our apartment, small quarters, lots of good together time, an amazing end to a great year. 🙂 I am full tonight after a week of rest, after a week of laughter and a week of making great memories with family and friends.
It started out finishing work at Fifth Avenue Club and then resting and getting the house ready for my parents during the weekend. I also snuck out for a girls’ night out – a fun dinner with even more fun girls.
But before my family could arrive to join Mikey’s family for the Christmas fun, Mikey and I celebrated our (7th) anniversary in the way we always do: our annual back country ski trip! On the way to the Egypt Lake Hut, Mikey surprised me with dinner at the five diamond restaurant, The Eden and a stay at the RimRock Hotel! We didn’t snap many photos, but the amazing many course meal was extremely tasty and unique – pheasant, amuse brioche (sp? a creamy and delicious soup), pate, banana ice cream with chocolate and ginger… WOW! What a surprise!
One of the best parts? A room with an amazing view of the mountains, a comfy bed and the Sound of Music sing-a-long on TV! Made my night. 😉 We were off the next morning for our 12 km hike in to the hut, which was a bit of a gong show but an amazing adventure as always.
We made it to the hut – and had it to ourselves!
Hiking to find some fresh turns – the ONLY ones out there!
There IS a video to come – Mikey’s working on that one next. But know that it includes fun, laughter, some good turns, some great adventure, and another year celebrating with my husband whom I appreciate so much!
We made the hike out through a blizzard 2 days later and went straight to the airport to pick my parents and brother, Taylor, up from the airport.
I was SO HAPPY to see them! We went for some good burgers and fries (our post-airport AND post-back country trip tradition) and then got ready for Christmas Eve. We met the Langs (all of them! and some extended family!) at church and then had an amazing meal at Maurice & Muriel’s home all together. We had a meaningful family time reflecting on the year that passed and sharing our experiences – what a gift to pause and think like that.
Christmas Day began with (another – see a theme here?) tasty meal from Muriel’s kitchen! And then? Stockings and presents and lots of time around the house together. I’ll let the pictures tell the story!
Baby Annelise likes my dreads!
Yep – my mom and brother in the flesh! 😉
And the rest of the holiday? It was unplugged, included sledding and hockey, leftovers and copious cups of coffee, games and sleeping in, skiing and staying in hostels. I’ll let Mikey’s video tell the rest of the story (which is a little long and just our families having fun together, but a great collection of memories to share nonetheless):
And so, before leaving for the East Coast tomorrow (more on that soon!), my heart is full. My family’s gone, Mikey’s family has all left, and our home is quiet… Happy New Year’s to everyone! Enjoy family and friends and the start to a new year and all that it might hold.
Cheers! Live well & be well,
