Hey guys! Can you tell I’m all about alliteration (whoa – didn’t plan that one!) lately? In that spirit, and on this Friday where I’m SURE you’ll get your workout on (because who doesn’t get outta work and enjoy the weekend AFTER sweating it out in the gym first?), I thought I’d bring you a little Fitness Friday to kick your weekend off right!
One of my clients sent me this workout that a CrossFitting co-worker passed his way and it proved to be the perfect workout for me today! I did change one thing: as I got to the end and was copying the workout into my log to take into the gym, I noticed that the last move was “12 oz beer.” Ha! So this is essentially a CrossFit workout with a different move for 12 reps at the end. 😉
For this workout, you’ll do it just long the song (sing along in your mind – or out loud, sure!) with me as the first round is 1 HSPU, then the second is 1 HSPU plus 2 Turkish Get Ups, the third is 1 HSPU, 2 Turkish Get Ups, 3 Box Jumps and so on. So this workout builds on itself and builds UP! A great ladder and a longer workout but with variety and good challenges all the way through. I did have more than a few sips of my husband’s beer tonight (bought because he finished his last final of his classes! WAHOO! So proud of you, hunk!) so maybe I did complete it with the 12 oz beer as prescribed. 😉
Remember, there are ALWAYS ways to modify the movements if need be:
- just practice kicking up against a wall with no push up for the first move
- using lighter weights or no weights (if it’s your first time doing a turkish get up, for example)
- holding onto a railing or using a TRX for the pistol (one-legged squats)
- doing hanging leg raises instead of knees-to-elbows or crunches to modify
- doing bench dips instead of ring or bar dips
- high knees or squat jumps instead of tuck jumps
- keeping your body moving rather than giving up!
On another note, it should prove to be a weekend filled with holiday festivities: a grad school dinner with Mikey’s classmates Friday night after work in the morning/afternoon, training home clients Saturday morning plus our friends’ Christmas party we can finally make this year and errands and wrapping presents and church on Sunday! Should be a blast.
Got a fun Christmas-themed workout to share?
Up to anything Christmas-y this weekend?
Either way, let’s keep those goals in mind and continue to follow Reebok’s urge to #getafterit as we enjoy this season, the food and drink and the people around us! Live well & be well (and happy Friday!),
