Ahh…back in the swing of things. It feels good to start waking up at regular hours again, to be back in the gym (both training clients and myself) and making real meals instead of leftover brunch items or cookies for dinner, doesn’t it?
Welcome, 2013! I’ve already shared a bit about my goals for the new year, but I never got around to showing you how we finished off 2012 and then rang 2013 in! So before I jump into some thoughts for the day, here’s a quick finish to our holiday time, including a fun video made by my husband and some fun NYE moments!
Back country skiing as a family? I’ll take it! Me & my sista, Cath!
Dave, me, Catherine, Jon & Mikey on our second back country day out!
(Did you happen to miss our 5 yr anniversary 5 day back country skiing video? If so and you want to see some frozen dreadlocks and an incredible hut, click here!)
After some great days skiing and adventuring with the fam, we headed back to Calgary and got work on a few projects, namely cleaning up our place and working on turning a door that we found in our attic into a table! So cool…Can’t wait to eat off it when it’s done! Here are a few glimpses of project in action:
…It’s going to be pretty great! We’ve got one section left to grout, let dry and then lacquer both sides and seal it up. The table legs are now in place and we’ll be ready to dine of it soon! Mikey did great work on it especially and our friend Jon was a great help in offering advice with the grouting and jumping in to help too!
In the blink of an eye it was time to celebrate NYE 2013! My best friend Anna and her family were up visiting from Texas and she connected with us just before the party and ended up staying the night to hang out! It was a real blessing to see her; no one knows me and Mikey and I as a couple so well – it’s freeing to be with someone who loves you for who you are and with whom you can chat, laugh adventure or even go to the mall (lame but true!). 😉 She jumped right in easy with the rest of the crowd for order-in Thai food and some wine (remember how I won 10 bottles from work?!):
We hopped on the train and went to the city centre for some fireworks and bands, which actually ended up being really low key and not impressive, but being out there with each other was great! Lots of laughs and a bit of dancing and lots of people watching make for a good night… Thanks for making it out, guys!
Good looking, fun-loving crew, aren’t we? 😉
After sleeping in a bit on New Year’s Day, we said goodbye to Jon (it was such a good visit with you, friend!) and hit the road ourselves for lunch with Anna. Gotta love the Diner Deluxe! Great breakfast joint and I loved getting a good dose of protein and healthy fats to start my day with a veggie omelet!
After breakfast we milled around, shopped a bit and teased each other (wait – I was teased. Can you guys tell from online that I’m SUPER easy to tease? Like being overly optimistic, naive, trusting and not super witty makes me an easy target? Well, it’s true, and Anna and Mikey are a great team when it comes to ganging up on me). 😉 It was wonderful to be able to meet up with the rest of the Philpotts, one of my favorite families with whom my connection goes back to 4th grade! and catch up on life at the Old Spaghetti Factory. After a bit more teasing (Mark was always very good at that too), some good food and great conversation, Anna, her brother David, and Mikey and I headed to see “Les Miserables” at the movies.
Movie verdict? Eh – it was long. Good, but long. Also, NO dialogue. Like…none! Only signing. The performances were very powerful and I absolutely love the story itself – one about grace versus the law, about redemption and about love – but 3 hours of all singing was a little bit too much for me. Glad I saw it though because my mind has sure dwelt on the story a ton!
And here we are today – 2 (light) work days in, 2 (great) workouts under my belt and more fitness goals/plans to share with you! I’ll save that for tomorrow, so be sure to check back before the weekend begins with some more fitness fun!
How was your New Year’s? Are you the go-out type or the stay-inside type? And how are your 2013 workouts coming so far? Keep me in the loop – I’d love to know what you’re up to to as the year kicks off!
Oh – and here’s a fun photo of the most words from my blog thanks to Lindsay’s link over on her blog (which you really should read; she’s fabulous and honest and kind and fit and so real!)- kind of fun if you have a blog to try out to (click here):
In the meantime, live well & be well and I’ll check in with you guys tomorrow! Enjoy the rest of your Thursday,
