Hey guys and hello to a new week! Let’s start it off on the right foot with eating real food, drinking lots of water and moving more – I know that’s my plan as the week begins! This week wasn’t the best for real food, water and movement, but it sure was relaxing, and that’s important too…I just prefer a little healthier weekend. Time to pick up, move on and be positive about each next step!
So here’s a glimpse into my relaxing weekend, starting with my only workout the weekend:
A Friday Workout: Core, Core & More Core!
Kick Unders & Side Plank Kick-Outs
Jumpin’ & hangin’ around
After training some morning clients and getting my own workout in, I went back to work at night to finish off the week. I headed home ready to chill out and had one last glass of a red wine with a big veggie + goat cheese salad and got caught up with my Bible study (Beth Moore’s study on James, “Mercy Triumphs”).
Saturday: Friends, Fun & Food!
The day started out with ambition: an alarm set for 6:30 am with hopes of going for a run before a busy day out began. However, I knew when it went off I needed more sleep and decided right then to give my body a rest day. So, a few hours later, I trained a client – a mom plus her two kids! We had a great time together doing a workout that they could do too – think: lots of jumping and “Gator Drags”, which they had fun with.
Then it was off to my friend’s Craig and Mandi’s house for a waffle brunch! I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves: freshly squeezed juice, Kona coffee, waffles w/fruit toppings & chicken bacon (surprisingly delish!):
These are great friends. Friends who understand me – they truly “get” me; friends who always make me laugh; friends who are down-to-earth; friends who are loyal and always there. Friends who slurp juice off the counter with you and don’t mind tons of photos – they even pose for them!
Although it was just a few short hours, I had a great time connecting with Craig and Mandi and catching up on life with them. Lots of love for these guys!
From their home (that they’ve been in almost one year – their first anniversary’s coming up!), I headed back south to my friend Rachel’s place, where Elisa, Brett and Erika were waiting (with only one baby this time – Elly’s little guy Bryce; plus Rachel’s growing baby!). We had a girls’ hang out time and not only was it a blast (games, good food, lots of talking), but it was so needed. Elly’s, Rachel’s and my husband were away in a group of guys for their annual ski trip, and it ended up that the three of us stayed until about 10:15 pm chatting and connecting so naturally. I don’t often hang out with many women but man…it was awesome. I’m thankful for this group of women and the community God’s placed me in; truly a home away from home!
Mikey returned later that night and MAN was it good to see my MAN! We slept soundly and before we knew it, Sunday was upon us.
Sunday: Chill Connecting
We began Sunday in one of my favorite ways: making a fun breakfast! It was a delicious one…check it out:
Round two of waffles (I topped 3/4 of one with plain Greek yogurt, sunflower seed butter and cinnamon – plus, there were chia seeds in the batter to pump it up nutritionally!) + my new genius idea – putting an egg in a waffle maker! Here’s how it turned out (head cocked to the extreme is necessary for such a genius idea, didn’t you know?).
After a great morning at church, we headed out for Mexican at Mucho Burrito (as good as Calgary gets for this kind of food so north of the border! ) with 9 other buddies, 2 babies and 1 on the way. We had a great, chill lunch and chatted for at least an hour before we slowly started trickling out to enjoy the day. Next up on our agenda? The Farmer’s Market to pick up a basket for our upcoming silent auction and fundraiser and out to see a cheap theater movie.
It was a great, relaxing weekend on all accounts. I didn’t want to take time away from our morning breakfast, time with friends, or relaxing time with Mikey, so I let today be a rest day too. My only activity? Completing 31 diamond push ups for Kristen’s Feats of Strength for this week! Check it out over on her site and look back weekly for new challenges – ANYONE can participate!
On that note, it’s time for me to close the computer. But I’d love to hear about your weekend…
Did you REST like me or was it an active weekend? Any long runs in there or fun classes?
Do you have a group of guy or girl friends you hang with when you’re solo?
What’s one thing you’re looking forward to this week? I’m hoping, after 2 rest days, to get a nice long run in between clients tomorrow! #STOKED
Here’s to a great week! Fill me in on what’s coming for you guy too and in the meantime, live well & be well,
