Grateful. Humbled. Overwhelmed. Stoked! My fire was reignited, I was refreshed, and I am coming home encouraged in so many ways after my week in LA and weekend with my family in the Bay Area. I still can’t believe I attended a training camp for athletes with 2XU (pronounced “Two Times You” – multiply your performance!) around the world with incredible coaches, trainers and specialists in thee Southern California sunshine. I still can’t believe I went to represent Canada and was able to play beach volleyball with Team USA girls, paddleboard in the ocean swells, swim at night with my new friends and our Navy Seal coach, get the basics of fitness, movement, nutrition and recovery stripped down and reinforced in my mind as a trainer and athlete.
(Thanks to Tarsan SUP for the super fun session in the water! Those swells were no joke and the water and company was amazing!)
AND, I still can’t believe I was able to sneak in a visit with my family in Northern California, see friends from high school and run into others randomly, help teach bootcamps with my mom, roadtrip with my brother, talk about life with my dad and ride bikes in the sunshine with panoramic views of San Francisco with my whole family.
Sand everywhere; backwards hats making a comeback; a new brand and company I am happily loyal to; fresh experiences and friends now around the world; new gear to help promote smarter training; smiles abounding and joy overflowing from my heart.
Thank you, 2XU Australia, for putting the event on, and for both Canadian Running Magazine and 2XU Canada for choosing me to train with some incredible individuals and minds in California. Thanks to 2XU USA for hosting us at the beautiful, beachside Beachfront Hotel in Hermosa Beach and for everyone’s insane generosity and kindness.
Thanks to Troll at The Yard Strength for allowing us to train at your amazing gym and for your constant encouragement and lifting up every single one of us!
To Jeff Nichols for giving us incredible experiences outside the gym and inside of it, and for your firm but approachable and effective method of training.
To John Sullivan for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience with pro sports teams and individuals on and off the field in terms of sleep, recovery and balancing life – your warmth and humility is contagious and appreciated.
To my parents for their continual support and love – you guys exemplify hard work, a spirit of not giving up or giving in but instead leaning into Jesus.
To my brother Taylor for allowing me to be the square in the family and loving me all the same; for allowing me to be concerned about my little brother and then being able to run around like kids again; for your fun approach to life and people and for fitting in and being kind wherever you go… And thanks for the ride!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. What a week! It’s back to work, but I’m excited to apply all that I’ve learned and revisit my notes and experiences as I enjoy life in Calgary with Mikey, at CityFit and in the spring time! I’m grateful for the time I had and ready to be home living out #heartnothype in every facet of my life. More posts to come this week with my top 3 take-aways from learning from the pros – so much to share and more to put into action.
Live well & be well,
