Although it’s still Sunday, I’m already anticipating the start of the work week… So there’s a good thought to begin your Monday! I hope you guys all had a great weekend. I reviewed a new-to-me-product (read/view video below!), got some laundry/cleaning done, enjoyed skiing with my in-laws for my father-in-law’s birthday, and spent a great morning with Mikey at church. Before I jump into the review, here’s a glimpse of my weekend in photos:
Any weekend highlights to share? St. Patrick’s celebrations, races, family time, rest?
With any holiday seems to come fun, themed races in communities across North America. Seeing photos and race recaps from friends and other bloggers is always fun and I saw some great green accessories out there this weekend! One running accessory I’ve always wanted to try are arm sleeves. Initially what drew me to them was how cool they looked (let’s be honest here!); all the top runners seemed to sport them and they simply looked speedy! But the more I read about compression gear (there are many great reviews on Skinny Runner’s blog), the more intrigued I was with them. I contacted Zensah, a well-known Florida company, to see if they would send me a pair of arm sleeves in exchange for a review (full disclosure: the thoughts expressed below are my own). I was thrilled when I received my new orange (Dorothy has the hot pink ones covered!), size small sleeves in the mail!
The Company: Zensah
I’d heard many great things about this company, whose name derives from the Italian word “Senza,” meaning to be “without” (in this case, athletes being “without limits” – how great is that?). Zensah products are all created with seamless technology (simply made without seams).
The Reasoning: Why Compression?
I didn’t know much about compression gear until I read up on it and then used the above sleeves, but I had read a lot about people using compression socks, shorts, and leg sleeves for faster recovery post-long runs/races. I discovered that gravity can work against us in more ways than one: it can cause a build-up of fluid in the muscles and tissues, which creates more swelling and recovery time post-workout. Exercise causes muscle damage (which is why rest is so important!), including small-tears that lead to inflammation.
This is where compression comes in, as it helps:
- stabilize muscle tissue,
- keep swelling at a manageable level, which allows the muscles to rebuild,
- decreases inflammation,
- reduces DOMS (you know – the pain we all love to hate post-workout otherwise known as “delayed onset muscle soreness”) [info rephrased from Zensah’s pamphlet]
The Experience: I’ll let the video speak for itself!
Thanks again to Zensah for opening up my running world to a new product! Can’t wait to take them out for my next spin on the roads and trails.
Have you ever tried compression gear or arm sleeves specifically? What are your thoughts? Have you heard of Zensah?
It’s another start to a busy week…better get to it! Have a great Monday and keep running happy! Live well & be well, friends,
