It’s been a beautiful day around the city today! I decided today would be a good day to sleep in and tomorrow would be my final running day here in Victoria, and man – it was a good idea. Mikey and I slept in and didn’t really get going until about 9 am…it was an extra few hours of much needed rest, and we took full advantage of it! After a tasty and nutrition-packed breakfast of quinoa, almond milk, banana, cinnamon, and fresh strawberries (gotta love the coastal foods!), we packed up our gear for the day and headed out for a walk with our friend and host, Adena. It’s so fresh outside, and although there’s not much sun peeking through, the air felt invigorating and inviting, so we decided to walk downtown from her place. Loaded up with bags and ready for the day, we set off walking.
Our only objectives? To explore a bit around town and make it to Re-Bar for lunch (I was determined this time!). We browsed the shops, enjoyed the ocean views, explored a little farmer’s market, and took in the beauty of the cherry blossom trees. Eventually we changed course and headed to Re-bar, where the 20 minute wait to eat was WELL worth it!
We started off with some fresh juice (Adean’s green juice: mint, cucumber (and other good ingredients I can’t remember) refreshing drink; Mikey’s orange goodness: lime, strawberry, and orange juice; my “veggie elixir” cup of redness: beets, carrots, kale, celery, and parsnip) and were all delighted with the fresh taste, the vibrant colors, the healthy foods entering our blood streams, and the massive industrial juicer behind the counter [should have snapped a photo!]. It can be so hard to eat healthy while traveling, but finding places like this sure help to get the job done while enjoying delicious food at the same time. As a quick side note, juicing is something Mikey and I would like to get into more; maybe we can save up for a more small-scale juicer and start enjoying our own tasty and healthy concoctions at home! One can dream… But back to the (delicious) story at hand…Re-Bar!
After my flavorful 3 Sisters Enchilada (beans/squash/corn in a blue corn tortilla with some spicy rice and coleslaw on the side), I felt full but not stuffed. This was our bigger meal of the day and we made sure to eat a lot as we won’t be eating much for dinner (sticking to our tour budget!). Even now, although I could go for something sweet, I still feel satisfied, so I’ll be content to keep up my water drinking (remember my March goals?! How ya’ll doing with yours?!) and stick in a piece of gum to keep me from going nuts.
We’re now working in a local coffee shop, Serious Coffee (love the name!), and the SUN has come out! Hopefully we’ll get a chance to walk around under the warm rays before heading in for our screening soon.
So here’s to sunshine and a successful screening tonight! We really believe it’s always a success, regardless of numbers, when people come out and enjoy themselves, are encouraged to share their stories, are able to interact with the film and characters, and leave challenged to think and in a more hopeful state. Looking forward to that time tonight and to my morning run (excited to map out where I’m going to wander and take my camera tomorrow for some fun pics)! What do you have planned for the rest of the weekend? Any plans to eat some healthy foods or sweat up a storm? Tell me about ‘em! and have a great end to your weekend wherever this post finds you. Live well & be well,
