We’re BAAAACK! I can’t tell you guys how hard it’s been NOT to have our website up after being hacked – not only as we embarked on our 6th annual Owyhee River Kayaking Expedition but also because I’ve SO missed blogging! I’m such a verbal processor and not being able to dialogue about life and connect with readers and friends has been tough! So…I’m going to attempt to do a little catch up on life after about a month of no blog activity. If you’ve kept up with me on Instagram or Facebook, you won’t be as out of the loop, but it’s great to have this space back to share.
When I last wrote, we were headed to the Owyhee with some friends, ready to road trip down from Calgary to Boise before meeting the rest of the group to start our 6th annual river trip (can you believe it’s been that long?). We were also waiting for my sister-in-law, Sarah, to have a baby (spoiler alert: the trip was incredible and Sarah and Craig have a healthy, happy little girl!). The trip was an incredible one, which started with some “Frozen” (oh, moms these days…):
…and it just got better from there! 😉 Here’s a look at our week in the wilderness where we experienced hot days, refreshing water and all kinds of wildlife with some amazing people full of love, wonderful stories and who were fully invested in the trip and one another:
“High side! High side!”
There we go!
Husband & wife team… Nailed it.
We were able to celebrate Canada Day (July 1st) AND the 4th of July with our split US/Canada group – and our first ever international participant, Peter, from Australia celebrated both sides. 😉
A great group of guides and another great trip comes to an end with bottomless fries and strawberry freckled lemonades at Red Robin’s!
Pictures cannot do the beauty of the Owyhee River Valley in SE Oregon justice, and an explanation of our experiences cannot do the depth of them justice either. We saw all manner of wildlife (rattlesnakes, a fat scorpion, river otters, a mountain lion – THAT was incredible!) and walked through ups and downs of our lives together. I am so thankful for the group that came and for the opportunity to get out into this place for a deeper purpose once again.
After the Owyhee we changed gears quickly and headed to Portland, Oregon where we met up with our friends Craig and Mandi. We road tripped down to Silverton after a fun walk and dinner with some of my Oregon cousins as well as a stop at Mikey’s university roommate’s beer house. Our time was too short with all parties, but so sweet! After that we were California-bound!
After such an intense (in the best way!) week, it was nice to have some time to chill out and drive… Although from Portland to San Francisco, Santa Monica, San Diego and straight up to Idaho is a liiiitle more time than I needed. 😉 Next year, we fly. Here are a few shots from a week down my favorite coastline:
SO happy to see my mom and dad (dad up front driving, clearly me and mom here…but I sure cried like a baby when I left my dad too!).
SO great to be with my cousin Becky & her husband Gerar too! Love these fun family members. 😀
Manders and I at Muir Woods!
“Shake ‘dem dreads!”
A glimpse at my favorite city…
6 am bootcamp the day after we arrive with my mom and dad because…why not?!
After another long day of driving we made it to the Santa Monica Pier!
At last – Peet’s Coffee!
The man himself, Jon Foreman from Switchfoot at their annual surf competition and beach concert, the Bro-Am.
…worth the wait!
Delicious coffee from a local shop…
LOVE my California necklace from my mom – a kind and meaningful surprise.
And what’s a trip to California without a stop at In-N-Out? 😉
Our last stop was a meet-and-greet with our new
favorite family member, Annelise Marie Portell! We met her fresh off 28 hours over 2 days in a small rental car with 2 good friends:
And have so enjoyed the time with Sarah and Craig over the past few months and weeks especially now that our new niece is here as part of the family!
Well, I have many on-the-go workouts and travel thoughts to follow, including some recent mindset and perspective insights, but this post can stand alone and show a photo essay of an incredible two weeks away. It’s hard to believe that we’re going on our 3rd week back here in Calgary since then! More updates to follow, but let me just say it’s good to be back. 😉
I’ve been slowly catching up on others’ blogs this summer, so in case I’ve missed yours or you’re a reader or friend, update me: what’s new in YOUR life?! Catch you later this week! Until then, live well & be well,
