Sights & Sounds of camping and Wilderness First Aid-ing it up:
Early morning runs (5:45 wake-ups, on the trail by 6 am or earlier!)
Wednesday: 6.58 miles
Friday: 6 miles
Saturday: 6.6 miles
…all before class at 7:30 am! Rocked it. Beautiful mountains give me good motivation to move in the early mornings!
Post-run oatmeal with almond butter, bananas and yogurt.
Roasted sweet potatoes, onions, garlic and corn from the BBQ on a bed of spinach.
Random meals of french bread and cheese, fruit and lots of marshmallows and graham wafers.
Trains, RVs, Mountains
Beautiful trails across from nearby trains (which I actually like!)…
Jump roping during the in-between moments on the one patch of cement (better than flinging rocks everywhere!) next to RVs camped out for the weekend.
More jumping, but this time in the way of jumping shots.
Gorgeous views despite a week of rain and lots of low cloud cover.
Now that we’re back home (as of yesterday), I’m enjoying the sights and sounds of lots of fresh salads and breakfasts in a house, not outside a tent while it’s raining; sleeping in our bed together after 74 days on the road; and doing “city” things like going to the mall and seeing a movie (can you believe it?!).
Last night after returning home, unpacking, and beginning the clean up we decided to go to a movie to chill out and enjoy being back home. Our choice? Pirates of the Caribbean 4 (can you believe there’s 4 of them?!)…the verdict? It was good! Just a fun pirate movie, not trying to tie itself into the storyline of the first few movies, which made it a fun stand-alone movie with only a bit of romance and lots of swashbuckling scenes. I especially like the mermaid scenes too, although the movie as a whole dragged on a bit. But for a night out of entertainment? Fun!
We are gearing up for a very full week of errands and planning for our upcoming kayaking trip that begins next week…crazy! We’re so excited for it. But before then, I have an interesting post coming up – my first product review! – for when the summer weather gets nice and you want a delicious and healthy drink option (besides water of course; nothing trumps a glass of cold water for it’s benefits to your body!)…here’s a sneak peak that I found waiting in a box when I returned home:
So I want to know a couple of things:
What are your favorite sights and sounds of summer?!
I love the smell of fresh-cut grass, chocolate-dipped vanilla cones, short summer dresses and tan legs, and feeling fit and healthy during summer months…plus diving into cold bodies of water on a hot day, time with friends and BBQ’ed corn and light salads. YUM!
What is your favorite go-to summer beverage (besides water)?
I’d say mine would be a cold beer (but only after a day of climbing – that’s the only time I actually want a beer!) or a banana/blueberry smoothie. LOVE it!
Until then, live well & be well friends!
