Hey guys! Happy (late) Canada Day and (early) 4th of July to all my Canadian and US readers! And to the rest of you, thanks for reading and make up a holiday around the beginning of July to take the day off and celebrate. 😉 I’m blogging from work today in between clients – a long, full day today but I’m so grateful for work! I last left off on the good ol’ blog with a post about the simple “ABC’s” of me – I loved reading your responses to some of the letters and appreciate your sharing.
Since then I did some canoeing, camped with a new-to-me group of wonderful people, did a bit of hiking, and thoroughly enjoyed another weekend outside in the Alberta sun. We canoed for 3 days down the Milk River (about 20 minutes north of the US border in southern Alberta) and had a blast! I wanted to share a few highlights from our refreshing holiday weekend away, all thanks to our friend Royce who invited us out for this annual family tradition we’re now a part of. Creation and community – two things we experienced and walked away content and refreshed, ignited with a fresh fire to keep living with those two values in mind.
…Another great road trip! About 4 hours south in car listening to the first Harry Potter book on CD and talking about life. I love road trips with my man! …and killing tons of bugs. Check out those mosquitos!
Hiking among hoodoos, blueberries and almonds as fuel, Poverty Rock – a far away shot of our campsite.
A hike in some beautiful (if mosquito-infested!) hills and some great sightings of snakes, falcons, deer, bunnies and other wildlife on the prairies. We explored a lot, laughed a lot, watched cute kids a lot, and had some great conversations with an amazing community of people. It’s so neat to be with like-minded people and get right down to those conversations about life – about things that really matter. I really appreciated that this weekend.
Although there was a crazy storm over Saturday night, the evening started out clear and beautiful with an almost-full moon. Mikey and stayed up until about 1 am talking and taking pictures in the moonlight, soaking in the solitude and enjoying the night. Here’s some of his (and God’s!) handiwork:
Our tent behind Poverty Rock.
Contemplating life; solitude on the rock.
A bright, bright, beautiful moon.
Couple shot. 🙂
Just beautiful. It’s so incredibly refreshing to get outside and soak up God’s Creation both in the scenery and activities and with people. Creation and community – two things that make me feel alive and that bring me so much joy! Mikey and surely felt refreshed after this weekend, despite buggy moments and tired kids (really, they were awesome – so neat to see families OUT and enjoying life!) and coming off our recent trip on the Owyhee River. So charged up.
I encourage you to get out there and ENJOY! Move in new ways, sleep outside, eat backpacking food or try something different out on the trail, and be refreshed by what being outside and enjoying people can do for you.
…What reenergizes you? What fires you up when you’re feeling tired or burnt out, stressed or down? Are Creation and community a part of that inspiration process for you? …How do you ENJOY? I’d love to hear what get you going!
Back to the floor – 3 more clients at the gym for the day and then home to come down from a full weekend and full Tuesday back at work. I’ll be back later this week with some fun workout ideas for you and a video too!
Have a great day and I’ll connect with you guys soon – live well & be well in the meantime!
