Thanks so much for the great comments on my recent post about the California celebration – what a great wedding, visit, family time and break it was for Mikey and I! Man…I love my family (and as many of you said in the comments, I’d take you in for a family vacation with us in a heart beat). 😉
So…back to real life. Here’s what’s been going on this week, including some updates on the food and fitness front:
Moving! This week we’re spending all our free time packing up our belongings and toting them over to our new apartment. I can’t wait to show you guys pictures and video of the place – it’s got some character. 🙂 Here are a few sneak peeks as we’ve been taking loads in:
Eating! I’m still trying out IF (intermittent fasting) and loving it…sort of. Truth be told, I’ve gained 5 solid pounds since I started, and the only reason I can surmise is because I’m eating too much during the “feeding windows” rather than controlling things. Still, with one 24 hour fast each week (which is honestly pretty easy until about 8 pm that night) and then doing lean gains (fasting until about noon or 1 pm each day and finishing your food at 8 pm), it seems like there should be enough of a calorie deficit that I’m not actually gaining! It’s thrown me a little but I like how I’ve learned to listen to my body better, be more in control of what and how I eat and I’ve loved the freedom of my life not revolving around my eating schedule. Didn’t pack an extra snack? That’s okay! I can deal with a little hunger (as I’ve discovered) – I won’t whither away! 😉 It sounds funny but it’s true! I’m not worried about that anymore and have become more relaxed about it. Socially it’s an easy way to eat because I’m still eating in the evenings (indeed, my biggest meals are at night now!) and in the mornings I feel sharper and more clear-headed than I do after starting my day with primarily carbs. But then there’s the weight gain…just not sure what to make of that! But I’m going to keep it up for a while and see how I like it; since it fits my lifestyle I feel like it’s something I can sustain.
I found this online – love Tosca Reno! Great food for thought…pun totally intended. 😉
Moving! It’s been great getting back into regular workouts again. I just love the feeling of sweat, hard work, hurting lungs and a tired body! Do like to #getafterit?! More than that, I’ve really enjoyed running again. It’s been a while! Yesterday I banged out 5 miles on the treadmill and they felt surprisingly easy and today enjoyed 6 miles of intervals – 12 sprints of 1 min “on” (at 8.5 or 9 mph) and 2 min “off” (at 5.5 mph). The last mile was a cool down and went pretty quickly. I finished feeling like I had more in me and had more time before my next client, so I enjoyed Zuzana‘s ZWOW #34 of 20 squat hops, 20 dumbbell bent over rows, 20 walking lunges and 20 plank plate pulls (LOVE that last move!). Felt great! What have your workouts been like lately?
Weather! Man, in a heartbeat we skipped fall and went straight to winter. Not sure what’s up with that (wait – pretty sure that’s Calgary), but it hasn’t been too bad. I got some great fall runs in, enjoyed the beautiful leaves and now I get to bundle up – it’s not so bad, but I can tell I’m miles away from California. 😉 Yesterday morning I to get out my credit card to scrape the windows since I didn’t have my scraper ready. Lesson #1for Calgary winter driving? always.be.prepared. 😉
Any interesting updates to share on the workout, eating, weather, or life front? Lay ’em on me! 😀 Cheers to a great weekend friends! Live well & be well,
