Hey guys! Tuesday in Calgary today…and likely wherever you are too reading this. 😉 I hope you had a great start to the week yesterday. I went for a beautiful 6 mile run on the perfect fall morning here…it was just the quintessential fall running day – just like the other day’s hike up Wedge Mountain in Kananaskis (in case you missed yesterday’s post)!
Since Monday was Canadian Thanksgiving, we had the day off and it was so nice to run, have some time in the morning at home, and then head off to meet friends for brunch! Four of us met up at a super delicious vegetarian restaurant in Calgary called The Coup, and aside from GREAT drip coffee (nothing like Denny’s or weak diner coffee!) in great mugs, the connection and time together was great.
I thought it would be fun to update you guys on the latest
and greatest in life lately!
First up… I became a brand ambassador for this neat company, ElevenByVenus, started by Venus Williams, that creates great fitness clothes for women that are stylish and practical.
In her own words, Venus “set out to create something that would represent much more than I could ever achieve on the tennis court: clothing that allows you to express your individuality, cultivate strength and confidence and makes you feel good every time you put it on… The name EleVen represents how I strive to live every day — that is, without limits. In our world, ‘10’ is just another number, but EleVen is a lifestyle – it’s about challenging your status quo, embracing positive change, and pushing beyond whatever is holding you back from living your ideal life.” (source)
I especially love the last line on the “about” page (linked above),
Ask yourself: ‘what else is out there for me?’ Not sure? Good. Get up and go find out. We’ve got your back.
(I wore the hail mary tank – not an affiliate link – on this morning’s run above!)
Right now they don’t ship to Canada, but fingers crossed they will soon enough! Or if you have a contact in the US or an address in the US you could ship there and have a kind soul send it up to you. 😉
As you can see by the “feature image” above, I LOVE Halloween! It’s my favorite holiday at my favorite time of year and with it comes kids running around at night, costumes, excitement, being scared and, of course, free CANDY! And I love candy. I overheard an older man say the other day, “I haven’t had Skittles in years,” and I thought, I probably will never be that senior – I’m pretty sure I’ll always enjoy candy and never lose that. 😉 But it’s time I cut back a little. I’m trying to tame the sweet tooth and focus on cleaning up my diet – just for a week of focus – and then who knows? Maybe I’ll go another week, and another, and another. Mark my words, this isn’t the last of my candy corn eating days this month, but I can take a break for a week and live. My mom’s gym is doing a week of the Whole 30 (paleo eating), and while I’m subscribing to most of it for the week, I’m focusing on cutting out the sugar. If you want to join me for the week for accountability purposes, please do!
Supplements … Yep! After reading lots about them and, quite honestly, being skeptical about their affects on an “apparently healthy individual,” I’m on team-supplement. Why? I’ve been thinking about not just being healthy but being optimally healthy, and our food simply isn’t as full of nutrients as it was 50, 100+ years ago. So while our food is the most important place to get nutrition, I think if we are deficient in any way that’s an area where supplements can help. Plus, living in Canada (north of that border, you know!), I need to be taking supplements like Vitamin D and most of us would benefit from taking Omega 3s like fish oil.
I can’t even recount how many times I’ve gone to natural foods stores and looked at rows and rows of vitamins and supplements and always bought the cheapest one without knowing what the difference between any of them was in the first place.
That’s why I’m taking Usana (not an affiliate link) – super clean, high quality products – and starting with a health pack of essential vitamins, fish oil and Vitamin D. I’m excited to let my body pick up what it needs from these supplements and let the rest go, and the more I think about it the more I think it makes sense to invest in my body in this way – Mikey’s too! as he’s also taking the same health packs to start.
Do you take vitamins? Supplements? What are your thoughts on their importance (or not)?
And what else? Well, another “latest” is that lately I’m not working! At least not Tuesday and Wednesday (and maybe even Thursday). There was an electrical fire at night in downtown Calgary and thousands are without power. We still have power but the gym (among other buildings) is closed for now. Pretty crazy.
In more updates, my parents AND my brother are coming for Christmas! I can’t wait, and although I’d LOVE to be home for Thanksgiving (anybody got a buddy ticket?!), 😉 Some of Mikey’s extended and all of his immediate family will be here, so it’s going to be a party, and I can’t wait to sing hymns in church with my dad and enjoy some cinnamon buns with my mom and probably get put in a headlock by my brother and get into the mountains and see my family in the snow and…and… [sigh] It’s going to be great. 🙂
So – what’s going on in your lives? Supplements? Sugar? Fall? Let me know some updates! And have a great week ahead, guys!
