It’s officially winter here in Calgary (have I been saying that for a while?!) and the weather is showing it – cold, snowy windy, brisk – that’s putting it mildly (and we’re definitely not in the depths of it yet!). I finished off my week after a full day of clients reflecting on how hard I’m really pushing, how much I’m really trying when it comes to staying disciplined and achieving the level of fitness I want.
I was urged to think things through more seriously when I stumbled upon Jill‘s video outlining her top 10 Fat Loss Tips For Women. For the women reading out there, I encourage you to give her tips a listen and employ them! I especially liked her explanation for why lifting heavy weights is GOOD for women:
…and the differentiation between healthy eating and eating for fat loss. All of this, plus these two great blog posts from my readings this week, have got me thinking and wanting to truly act to create change.
I really think this is true! I’ve been making excuses and if I want to see change, I need to act, not just allow myself to keep going with so-so food choices and consistent but random workouts.
This needs to be my focus right now:
And so because of it, I’m excited to JUST DO IT ALREADY and share my mission for not only December but into the 2013:
It’s a phrase I’m sure you’ve seen around the internet, on Pinterest and on some training shirts: “Eat Clean, Train Dirty,” and I’m caught up in this phrase because it really motivates me! The reality is that I train pretty hard but don’t really restrict my diet; and the hard and fast truth is that you canNOT out-train a poor diet (see this video for proof among the other evidence out there, including possibly your own weekend of getting a workout in but eating what you like and therefore not seeing change). So, it’s time to be a bit more restrictive with myself. I’m not talking about not enjoying the Christmas-y, festive foods but rather NOT choosing to grab those extra handfuls of almonds, chocolate chips, limiting bread that I don’t really need (and sometimes eat as filler) and saying “no” to that serving of ice cream that’s there just because. Tightening up those areas. It’s time to focus on being STRONG, on what my body CAN do and on eating CLEAN to fuel fat loss, tough workouts and being more vibrant and present with people. I’m excited about the change! For the first time, I’m going to track what I eat so I KNOW what’s going on rather than say, “Hmmm – I did pretty good today. Why aren’t things changing?”
Just wanted to share this for accountability and so others can join if you like! Time to up the protein, drop the amount of carbs and sugar and enjoy my workouts – just like I have been. Who’s with me?! Excited to start this month off strong and follow through on my intentions – if you don’t act on intentions, they might be good but nothing will change. Two Christmas parties to go to and I say BRING.IT.ON.
Live well & be well, friends – and have a STRONG weekend!
