Hey guys! I bet you can’t guess where I’m blogging from! …well, you probably can. I’m a girl, a fitness blogger and hate junk food – so I’m obviously blogging at a Super Bowl party! I should rephrase that last sentence – I am, indeed, a girl who is also, indeed, a fitness blogger, but I don’t hate junk food – I look forward to eating it on occasion. My food of choice today? Chips! Just some handfuls here and there (we know how that goes) and lots of water! So while my Super Bowl eats weren’t too exciting, the rest of the weekend’s eats were!
We had a fun Friday night connecting with our friend Jon and his girlfriend Karissa and started with dinner out at the Phoenix Grill. After the waiter made a joke about women ordering the warm berry quinoa salad, I ordered the warm berry quinoa salad. But how could I not? Quinoa, blueberries, walnuts, cheese, spinach and chicken – delicious AND nutritious!
I was pleasantly surprised with the food and good options there…but unfortunately Jon got food poisoning later that night and into the next day. #notgood After dinner we headed to Jon’s school (he’s a teacher) for a live auction for their grade 9 trip to build houses in the Dominican Republic. This is one generous and giving school – we’ve done fundraisers with them before and we.were.impressed! The event was amazing, well-attended and they must have raised at least $30,000! Incredible.
We hit up the candy bar ($5 for unlimited candy and a good cause!) and it did not disappoint, let me tell you!
The theme was 60’s dress up for the students and staff, which was fun to walk into and see the decorations and groovy auctioneer. Even the confetti was themed!
If I had more money (as in, $2,100), I would have bid on the two tickets to a taping of your choice of the Ellen Show! Man…that would have been AWESOME. The prizes were amazing, the people kind and giving, and the atmosphere fun; it was a great start to the weekend!
Saturday morning I set my alarm at 6:30 am hoping to get 10 miles in before the day began. I chose sleep instead and we took the morning slow, so after a good breakfast and some relaxing I headed out for my run while Mikey read and hung out at home. I hate to go for long runs (especially over 13 miles) when we have plans later in the day or there’s something at home I should be helping with. So I was very grateful to Mikey for the chance to sleep in, relax AND feel so free to head out and run.
Oh…but before I left I bent over to kiss Mikey long and hard and had NO idea my dreads were soaking in his coffee as I was leaning over the table! …this is no the first time something like this has happened.
Earlier this week I ran 20 miles in a t-shirt and shed some more layers while running 13 miles. Saturday I ran 10 miles in a…wait for it… TANK TOP! It was beautiful, you guys.
I was riding the runner’s high after my run in the sun and shot this quick little video. The main word to capture how I was feeling? JOY. …but I got a little deeper than that:
Where is your hope founded? (curious about this as it relates to your fitness, work, life in general…any thoughts! I love dialoguing about this kind of stuff!)
We spent the rest of the day working on more donation letters for different businesses for our upcoming fundraiser and silent auction. It was fun to do together after some initial frustration and discouragement with the fundraiser – it’s so good to have a friend like Mikey to talk and pray with about life.
That night I went to my friend Carla’s Arbonne party – what an amazing company! They’re vegan, upheld to European cosmetic standards (which are much higher than in North America) and the products feel amazing. I didn’t leave with anything, but it was fun to see friends and eat chocolate dipped strawberries!
It really made me give more thought to what we put on our faces (and, subsequently, into our bodies). I would love to use their firming body cream and loved trying out the hand sea salt scrub that left my hands SO soft!
Mikey and I finished the night off with a glass of red wine and a projector viewing of Master & Commander…such a good movie.
Sunday consisted of these things:
– rest (both from technology, work and workouts!)
– lunch with new friends
– Super Bowl
…not a bad weekend at all.
An all-protein and veggies breakfast with my man…love time in our robes and PJs together.
Lunch out with Mike and Deb at Original Joe’s…Mikey got the Kona burger and I got the veggie burger topped with guacamole plus a side salad and veggies & hummus. I tossed one piece of bun aside and mixed my whole plate together in a giant, filling and healthy salad! Loved it and was impressed with the good food options! Much better than our Friday night mediocre food experience. While the food was good, the company was even better! We loved connecting with this couple and had so much in common; instant conversation and lots of laughs, nods and smiles shared.
I’m looking forward to the week ahead…not exactly sure why, but I feel excited about it! Just in a mindset of prayer and trust as I continue to wait on God for my business, step forward with other opportunities and keep enjoying this warm weather.
Any weekend highlights to share?
What are you looking forward to this week?
Let’s keep supporting and encouraging one another in fitness, work and life and make it a great week. Live well & be well,
