Hi guys! Haaaappy Friday! It’s been a quick week for me and it’s hard to believe the weekend is here! Today feels like the kind that makes me want to put on comfy pair of faded, used jeans and a gray v-neck t-shirt with a messy
bun dread-up-do. Before I get to the fun, fit moves below (some links + a workout – stick around for a good one!), I wanted to share some of my reflections from earlier this week. I have so much to be thankful for, and several things have caused me to think about the good in my life (it’s funny that Janetha just posted about something similar – I understood how she felt on her self-proclaimed “pity party” day!).
Tuesday I was doing some follow-up with a few people who had expressed interest in personal training (I’d been doing some cold calls and connected with a few people). I left one house after the next with people saying, “I’m interested, but not right now,” which was not entirely discouraging but also not entirely encouraging. I wandered back to our house in the cold evening air, feeling a bit numb and down about my work situation, mainly because that day I was hoping for a few new clients before Mikey got back from a day of skiing.
But then, something that shifted my perspective happened: I went for a run. It wasn’t the clarity I experienced or the chance to let my mind wander that helped change my perspective, but rather seeing a man walking a bike, laden with bags of bottles. I walked past him and smiled, though he didn’t really look at me. I instantly thought “Wow…I’m here, running because I have the time and health to, going back to a warm house, and have money to buy groceries and then some…Even if I don’t have many clients, I have so much to be thankful for.” I’ve known several homeless people and my parents are good friends with many in their area, and even though some of them choose to be homeless, I cannot help but see my life differently when compared with how others live. Seeing this man did this for me. My attitude immediately changed and my countenance became brighter.
Disregard the clear heel strike; it’s the only way to snap the pic in mid-stride!
…and then something else happened: we went to small group (aka “Fat Tuesday”). We gathered, shared a meal – a delicious one, thanks to Nicole’s great soup-making! – and packed shoeboxes filled with toys, hygiene products, and school supplies for kids. One of our friends, Ben, works for Samaritan’s Purse and he has actually gone to Chile to give out shoeboxes to kids and brought the boxes in for us and we all contributed to the goods for each box. It was so meaningful, so intentional, and so special to do as a group for people who literally have nothing. These boxes are so much more than fun things for kids; they are a connection to a group of people who love them, to a non-profit doing incredible things, to the opportunity to learn about Jesus and his love for them. We dined, laughed, cried (well, I did a little ), prayed, and packed those boxes with love. Thirteen shoe boxes later we said goodbye and called it a night, Operation Christmas Child complete.
Wednesday was great. Four wonderful clients, thankful for them all,;lots of hard work and sweat (in my book, that makes for a good day!). I cleaned the upstairs, watered the plants, mopped the floors, and didn’t workout – sometimes the body needs a rest. But what made this day better was being reminded of what I have (home, job, comfort), of who loves me (family, friends, Mikey), of whose daughter I am (in-laws’, my mom and dad’s, God’s own child!), and of the beauty around me. It snowed lots overnight and despite some bad roads was beautiful to wake up to and enjoy.
On a more shallow note, I also had fun dying my hair yesterday! Every now and then I like to grab the cheapest box of bleach from Superstore and bleach my roots. It helps remind me of sunnier California days where my hair was blond(er) year-round.
It turned out good. Looks pretty much the same. Nothing to see here.
I just wanted to share some of those thoughts rolling around in my head with you guys. I’m grateful for you too, readers and friends! And because of this, I wanted to share a few fun links with you, starting with…
The Dance-Off. Did I recently post an embarrassing video of myself dancing in the basement on the world wide web? Yes, I did. But did I intend it to be a challenge to another certain blogger? No, I did not. …but a challenge is what I got! So, check out Lindsay’s post and see HER (and her cute husband, Travis) in action and post your own video by next week! Hey – if I can post a dancing video, then you can too – we all know I don’t have the world’s best moves.
YOUR Reasons to be Fit. On Monday I wrote about a few of my reasons to be fit and included a few of my own “hardcore” photos to act as personal inspiration to remind myself why I move. I want to see your photos and hear your reasons! Send me an email with a photo that represents why you’re dedicated to fitness or that symbolizes you being hardcore (to you – this can be different for everyone!) along with one of your reasons to be fit. I’ll feature them in a post when I get enough and we can all mutually encourage and inspire one another to keep moving! (Right now it’s only my mom, me, and maybe Allie – so please join in the fun and represent!)
Fun Moves to Make You Fit! I was looking around on youtube yesterday and found a great workout I couldn’t wait to do today! It’s from thebarefootwarrior and I wanted to share it with you guys. Here’s the link to her video (if you watch the video, the workout I’m referring to is the last of 3 that are featured and begins at 2.11 if you’d like to scroll right there).
Total Body Tabata!
6 Moves: 45 sec on, 15 sec off: 3 Rounds for 18 min total
Squat + Press Up w/KBs or DBs, alternating arms
Left Leg: Reverse Lunge + KB lift around forward leg
Right Leg: Reverse Lunge + KB lift around forward leg
Burpee (w/Push Up) but perform a squat jump instead of a regular jump up from plank position
2-footed Pike Jumps, side to side, from plank position
It might seem confusing because I don’t know the names of all the moves, but they make perfect sense when paired with watching this video! I had so.much.fun with this workout and loved it, and pushed hard so that I was ready to collapse and rest afterward! Let me know if you give it a shot; looking forward to checking out more of these workouts online too.
And that’s about all the reflection and fun I have for you guys this Friday! How about you? Got any good videos, workouts, or links to good posts/recipes to share? Lay ‘em on me! Also, because we shouldn’t only be thankful at Thanksgiving, what’s one thing you are thankful for on this Friday?
Have a great weekend, guys! Live well & be well today,
