Hey friends! Happiest of Mondays to you…I’m likely out training while you’re reading this and I hope you get a good sweat session in to kick your week off too! How was your weekend? I have a little taste of mine to share, starting with my own weekend workout: a bit of duathlon training since I have the Blitz Duathlon coming up in a week!
The event is a 7 km run, 18 km bike ride and 3 km run – not huge distances, but I’m taking over a friend’s bib number and haven’t trained specifically for it. So on Saturday, before running errands to get ready for a little party we threw (see below!), I did a modified workout to practice. It consisted of a 7 km run, 9 km bike ride (didn’t have much time but wanted to keep the runs at full distance) and a 3 km run. It went pretty well! I enjoyed the challenge and think it will be a fun event – even if I’ll be surrounded by people who really know what they’re doing. 😉 For a day with beautiful weather, it was perfect to do this workout and be out under sunny skies!
Speaking of sunny skies (there’s my transition!), I’m feeling very sunny because I’m blessed by these two women who submitted photos in response to my “Tug of War” post a few weeks ago. I wanted to share for a bit of Monday motivation for you all out there, starting with a:
truth from Yael (who ROCKED our kayaking trip this summer!):
A food view from Caity, a massage therapist at our gym who has totally transformed her body and life in the last 6 months:
*and a “Just-found-this-in-my-email!* submission from the beautiful Corey:
Another from me:
I’m not saying that it’s a “this or that” kind of thing for me, because clearly I have my share of ice cream, peanut butter and gummy bears compared to the “healthy” stuff. Moreover, I don’t even like thinking about food in terms of “good” or “bad” because my mind doesn’t do well with labels like that. Instead, I really do think it’s a balance – some of this and some of that. This weekend seemed to be a little heavy on the sweet stuff; I’m looking forward to getting back to routine (doesn’t the work week seem to help with that?) and to challenging myself to eating well because of how it makes me feel – both in the immediate moment and more importantly, in the future. Those multiple handfuls of candy corn might taste good for a brief moment, but the disappointment of having eaten pure sugar when a meal would have been better doesn’t trump the value of eating well and feeling great later!
Speaking of eating, this weekend we had some friends over for good food and fun! We decided to make it a balcony event, and thanks to Mikey’s hard work brainstorming ideas and rearranging furniture, we had a fun, “Pinterest-y” night out on the balcony at night!
First, we brought the table out onto our (slanted) balcony:
Second, and perhaps most importantly of all, I had to make myself hipster for the night (note: my outfit was chosen randomly, but a few of our friends told Mikey and I that they think we are truly hipsters! haha – really never thought of ourselves that way. I mean, where are the thick, black rimmed glasses?!). 😉
A few people trickled in and we spent an hour or so just reconnecting, sipping drinks outside while Mikey BBQ’ed.
Then, it was time to eat! Steaks, a fresh salad, bread to dip in olive oil and balsamic, grilled zucchinis from our garden (thanks to Steve and Deona for giving us garden space at their place)!
Soon the daylight faded and we were really able to enjoy our set up outside – even little Boone was having a blast.
What a fun night! Thanks to our friends who came out (and the little space heaters under the table that made it easier to hang outside so late into the night) – we’ll plan another one soon before the real fall weather hits!
Sunday was filled with sleeping in, a really great sermon and service at church today, a picnic with friends at the park (so great to see them!) and prep for the week at home.
All in all, it was a pretty great weekend. Not quite as intense as a few weekends ago, but one that was needed, refreshing and fun! In case you need a fix of intensity to kick off your Monday, here’s the video of our recent trip to the Bugaboos up Pigeon Spire that Mikey finished this weekend…the views are worth the few minutes, trust me:
Whoo! Walking that ridge line is better than a cup of coffee in the morning to wake ya up! 😉
Have a great start to your week, friends! Live well & be well,
