Hello, everyone! Hope your weekend’s been great! Ours has been good so far, filled with friends and good food already and there’s still one day to go! After working in the morning and then welcoming Mikey home from work around dinner time, we left the house and met up with some friends at their home nearby. They asked Mikey to bring his old bass guitar and amp, which he hasn’t picked up in yeeeaaarrs, and we were wondering why. “Wait – they want to JAM?” I asked, confused. “Don’t they know you don’t exactly PLAY the bass anymore?” “That’s what I told them!” Mikey replied, laughing. Nonetheless, we packed up the gear and drove out, me ready to snap some photos and Mikey ready to play (but not exactly sure how).
We drove up to our friends’ new home and loved getting the tour of their place and greeting everyone before hunkering down in the basement on the comfiest carpet EVER – and conveniently where Neil stores his guitars. Before we knew it, the girls were chatting and the guys were tuning up their instruments.
Neil has been playing the guitar for years and is REALLY good…watching the passion in his face took me back to high school days of boys playing guitars – isn’t there something great about that? Steve has just started playing and I can’t believe how good he is for the short amount of time he’s been plucking away! He wanted to jam – all the girls thought that was pretty cute. And Mikey, the sandbagger, was called so by Neil because he hadn’t played since grade 7 and said he was no good and busted out some sweet licks on the bass! …I was impressed. It was great watching them play together and reminded me how much I love live music in a home…Did you know I played the piano from grade 2 – 8, the clarinet from grade 4 – 6, the alto sax from grade 7 – 12, and the bagpipes from 9 – 12?
We had a great night catching up with some incredible couples; Erin, Neil’s wife, is going to have a baby any minute and looks amazing! And we always have a blast with our tall, long-legged friends Steve and his wife Deona. It was a great few hours and caused me to stay up way past my bedtime (I’m such an old woman!) on a Friday night.
Saturday morning was all about sleeping in – no alarms, no morning workouts planned, just slumbering and waking whenever our bodies started to stir! I usually like to have things planned in the mornings, but I haven’t been sleeping well lately and was tired from a late night Friday, so I was grateful for nothing on the schedule! The only plan was to head to our friend Zeal’s house for a brunch – BYOT style (bring your own toppings). We were greeted by many friends, many babies (it’s that time among our friends! We are some of the few holding strong with no kids ), and delicious food!
There was fresh coffee, lots of fruit toppings, great waffles, scrambled eggs with cheese and mushrooms, sausages and bacon, and lots of whipped cream and ice cream – Zeal LOVES cream, and we love him for it! We enjoyed the food but the people even more, lingering with friends on beautiful afternoon and chatting about life.
Then, it was time to brave the busyness that is a Saturday in December and venture out for some gifts and a tree…
Overall, we were successful! We went into the mall with a game plan, hit up the farmer’s market for some more local, unique gifts, and then stopped off to get a tree before Mikey’s parents return on Monday morning.
The rest of the night has been full of cleaning the upstairs (before their arrival!) and organizing the downstairs – we’re slowly making our basement area more of a home to us and we’re loving it! Tonight is a battle of Alberta in hockey – the Calgary Flames vs the Edmonton Oilers – so you can guess what we’re doing (Go Flames Go!). …Did you know we were on the Flames website AND Flames tickets before?!
Sunday our original plan was to go skiing with two other couples, but two weeks ago Mikey hit a covered stump while skiing and his foot killed in his ski boots when he put them on to check tonight. We are so bummed! It’s rough to cancel on people and even more weird to make a decision where I could go but him stay home (or in the lodge)…just didn’t seem right to me so we cancelled. Lame! But we are going to our church’s Christmas production, Two From Galilee, with another family, and they really put a professional show on so we’re looking forward to that. Maybe we’ll climb instead? We have to do something active now that our plans changed!
How’s YOUR weekend been so far? If you’re looking for something to do while lounging around, feel free to vote for me for my dancing video – only if you think my moves are worthy though – I’m up against some pretty good contenders! I’d love it if you could click over and “like” my Facebook page too!
Looking for something active to do yourself? Try this recent workout I created – you’ll love how wiped out you can get so quickly and work all the major muscle groups while pumping your heart rate up! Highly recommended in a busy, stressful time where we’re all sleeping less, eating more, and moving less too!
Live well & be well friends…and catch ya later!
