Hello, blogging world! It has been a while since I’ve sat down and blogged. I’ve definitely been on social media – I’ve be sharing quite a bit over on Instagram as I love the daily stories and sharing more detailed thoughts in the posts on my feed! It’s short, sweet and I connect with more people there than via a blog post. But, I thought it’d be fun to sit down, share some thoughts, and post a few photos from our summer as I reflect on not only the warm months that are slowly drifting away but also the first few months of Abigail’s life. I’m just over
nine months ten months postpartum (this post has clearly been in my draft section for a while) and trying to figure out how almost a year has already passed! Nine months of Abi growing and developing inside the womb and ten months of this little girl living on the outside, growing and developing in different ways!
From growing in my womb, no idea who was inside there…to playing on the outside!
Baby burrito down at the weir on a smoky but hot summer night!
Sneaky, Abs, sneaky 😉
I’m grateful that I loved being pregnant but as much as I enjoyed it, it also feels like a lifetime ago, and “newborn Abi” also feels like a distant memory.
Abigail Nahanni, Day 1!
I look back on photos and can’t believe she was so tiny and still growing into her little body, smile and personality. Day by day she continues to emerge and I’m enjoying the process of watching her learn to eat, crawl, laugh, learn, and develop into her own unique nature. It’s been an amazing 10 months full of adventures – from little adventures like going for my first postpartum walk with Abi, attached to my body in her carrier and snuggled warm under my down jacket as the snow fell – to bigger ones like Abi’s first climbing session, trips to California and road trips to hang with family in BC!
This summer, we kayaked and canoed for multi-day trips, slept in our tent and backpacked with Abi. From day trips to overnighters, she has been content and so fun to be with, and having her in the backcountry has enriched our experiences tenfold! Our adventures – and life, for that matter – aren’t as fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants or carefree anymore, but they are rich beyond what we could have expected. I love breastfeeding outside, in tents, on the side of mountains and while floating down a river, and diaper changes with views like this are pretty epic!
My body has been through a lot, my mind has been expanded as I now identify as a mom, and my daily routines have changed. As Abi has grown and developed, so have I; so has Mikey and our families at large. My priorities have shifted as fitness, work, and what used to fill my mind doesn’t hold as much significance; it’s all still there, but not in the same capacity as it was before. (I am working on a post about my fitness & nutrition mindset and how that’s changed since having Abi for later this week!)
I am so grateful for the past ten months – and really, the past 17 months as my body and mind slowly changed and made way for a little human to enter the scene – and for what’s to come. I hope this post finds you enjoying life, reflecting on summer and gearing up for the new season that is fall!
Live well & be well,
